Centre Siphesihle Mthethwa was named the U18 Craven Week Hero of the Day after scoring a try in the Pumas’ 72-10 loss to Western Province on Monday.
With his team 22-3 down in the first half, Mthethwa scooped up a loose ball after Province had turned it over near the Pumas’ 22. The centre chipped the ball ahead, chased his kick and kicked it ahead again, before showing good composure to regather under pressure and drive over the line.

The Piet Retief pupil said he was proud to receive the award.
‘To win Hero of the Day, I actually feel amazing. We tried to get the team together, to play well but it just wasn’t a good day for us.
‘I told myself to keep on going. The ball was bouncing everywhere but I kept on working hard and thankfully it bounced into me and I scored my try. It was all about my attitude, I kept my attitude and my feet on the ground and just played the ball.’
