Oliver Zono will start at flyhalf when the Kings face the Cheetahs in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Zono takes the place of the injured Kurt Coleman, while Rowan Gouws will replace regular scrumhalf Rudi van Rooyen.
Regular locks Bobby de Wee and Stefan Greef return to the starting XV, after being rested against Edinburgh.
The Kings have lost all 11 of their Pro14 matches this season and are rooted to the bottom of Conference B. The Cheetahs are third in Conference A.
