Brodie Retallick has been ruled out of the All Blacks’ three-Test series against France after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in the Chiefs’ loss to the Crusaders on Saturday.
Retallick was withdrawn at half-time, adding to a growing injury headache for All Blacks coach Steve Hansen.
Already dealing with a growing injury count following the two three-day national camps, another trio of All Blacks – Sam Cane (abdominal strain), Jordan Taufua (calf) and Jack Goodhue (hamstring) – will add a question mark over their heads heading into the first Test at Eden Park.
Cane was supposed to make his return from the injury that has kept him out for the past five weeks off the bench against the Crusaders over the weekend, but was ruled out beforehand.
In response to this, Hansen has added flank Matt Todd as well as locks Luke Romano and Tom Franklin to the All Blacks camp in Auckland, with Sam Whitelock also doubtful with a concussion.
