Catrakilis fires for Montpellier

Demetri Catrakilis contributed 18 points as Montpellier beat Bayonne 21-9, while there were also Top 14 wins for Lyon, Brive, Pau, Clermont, Castres and Racing.

Following his absence last week, Catrakilis made a stunning return to Montpellier’s starting lineup. The flyhalf slotted six penalty goals (two in the first half and four after the break), while compatriot Frans Steyn also chipped in with a monster 54m penalty.

Flyhalf Willie du Plessis accounted for Bayonne’s score via three successful penalties.

In other round-five results, Brive ended La Rochelle's unbeaten streak with a thrilling 29-28 win; centre Meyer Bosman’s two penalties weren’t enough to prevent Stade Français from suffering a 23-6 defeat at the hands of Pau; and Clermont hammered Bordeaux 40-16.

In the biggest upset of round five, Lyon stunned Toulouse 25-20 to record their first win over their more accomplished opponents since 1954. This was also Toulouse’s third successive loss.

On Sunday, scrumhalf Rory Kockott and hooker Jody Jenneker scored a try apiece for Castres in their 46-9 thumping of Grenoble.
And in the most anticipated match of the week, defending champions Racing smashed arch-rivals and last season’s runners-up Toulon 41-30 in Paris.

Round five results:

Montpellier 21 Bayonne 9
Brive 29 La Rochelle 28
Pau 23 Stade Français 6
