WP Rugby is reportedly facing a multi-million rand claim that could plunge the union into further financial turmoil.
According to Sport24, while WP Rugby (Pty) Ltd had already projected to make a loss of R11.2 million for the year, a dispute that centres on a contract dispute has now seen the company Aerios claiming immediate payment of R72m.
It's alleged that the sponsorship dispute relates to a contract that was entered into between WP Rugby and sponsor DHL without the consent of Aerios, who are the holders of the commercial rights of the union.
Sport24 also reports that four board members resigned late last month as independent directors from the board of WP Rugby due to unacceptable levels of governance that have contributed to the current financial landscape.
