Former Bok coach Peter de Villiers believes Frans Steyn should be immediately recalled to the national side.
Steyn is now plying his trade for Montpellier in France, with the former Sharks utility back having last played for the Boks in 2012.
This year, the Boks have battled to settle on an in-form centre combination, and De Villiers told Netwerk24 that he would have no hesitation in selecting Steyn.
'I would get Frans Steyn back from France immediately. He is Bok rugby's version of Sonny Bill Williams. Bring him back and make sure he's at his best. Frans gives you what Juan Smith, Fourie du Preez and Schalk Burger gave to the Boks when they were at their best.
'They challenged you as a coach. It was difficult to teach them something about the game due to their unbelievable talent and knowledge.'
De Villiers also expressed his surprise that Gio Aplon, Heinrich Brüssow and Andries Bekker had not got a look-in with the Boks this season.
