Paige blow for Boks

Rudy Paige looks set to miss the Springboks’ Rugby Championship Test against the All Blacks next Saturday due to a concussion.

The scrumhalf sustained a head knock in the Test against the Wallabies this past Saturday and was unable to return to the field after failing a concussion test. The severity of the injury is still unknown, but he will have to complete the prescribed graduate return-to-play protocol.

The Boks are also sweating on the fitness of Bryan Habana (thigh) and Jesse Kriel (groin), who were both subbed off due to injury. Along with the whole Bok squad, they underwent customary medical assessments on Sunday, but Habana and Kriel will have to be assessed again in the coming week before a call on their availability is made.

Meanwhile, Pieter-Steph du Toit is recovering well from the hip-pointer injury he picked up and should be available for selection this coming weekend.

There are no other injury concerns in the squad according to team doctor Jerome Mampane: ‘There are the obvious bumps and bruises after a typical hard Test match, but there will be continuous medical check-ups during the week.’
