Jones recruits league expert

England coach Eddie Jones has added Melbourne Storm assistant coach Jason Ryles to his backroom staff on a short-term basis in an attempt to beat the Springboks.

Ryles, who played for the St George's Illawarra Dragons, Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm in Australia's National Rugby League, has joined England's squad in a defence coach capacity.

'We want to bring that harder edge towards our defence, so Jason's in for a couple of weeks to assist Paul Gustard,' said Jones. 'To beat the Springboks we need our defence to be absolutely brutal, and that's something we'll be practising this week.'

Melbourne Storm is one of the best NRL teams in Australia, having contested six of the last 11 grand finals and their defensive structure is regarded as the toughest to break down.

'There are similarities in the way the Storm run their defence and the way we run ours. We want defence to be one of the trademarks of our team. There are certain technical things we can learn from rugby league and Jason brings them to the party,' Jones added.
