Jannie du Plessis sustained a leg injury in the win against England and may miss the rest of the Boks’ tour, reports JON CARDINELLI at Twickenham.
The Bok tighthead was helped from the field in the second half. After the Test, which the Boks won 31-28, coach Heyneke Meyer confirmed that Du Plessis had injured his hamstring and knee.
Meyer said Du Plessis was likely to miss the next match against Italy in Padova. At this stage, Meyer is concerned that Du Plessis may not recover in time for the final tour match against Wales.
The Boks are thin in that tighthead prop position, having already lost Frans Malherbe and Marcell van der Merwe to long-term injuries. The latest setback should see Coenie Oosthuizen promoted to the starting side for the clash against Italy, with the uncapped Julian Redelinghuys coming onto the bench.
