Western Province will be looking for their fourth successive win of the Currie Cup qualifiers when they take on the Sharks in Durban on Saturday, writes CRAIG LEWIS.
Fullback Grant Hermanus kicked a last-gasp penalty as Province narrowly beat the Golden Lions XV in the last round of action to remain one of two unbeaten sides in the competition. The Cape team is now set for another testing battle against the Sharks XV.
It’s been a less than impressive start to the season for the Durban-based side that has won just one game out of three, but they will be hoping to cause an upset on their home turf.
Another big game this weekend will see the log-leading and also undefeated Griquas looking to clinch their fifth win in a row when they come up against fourth-placed Border in Kimberley. The impressive Griquas have picked up a full haul of 20 log points from four matches and look well-placed to keep their winning streak going.
The SWD Eagles will be aiming for their fourth win of the season when they clash with the Griffons in Welkom on Friday, while the Golden Lions XV will take on the Free State XV in what should be another intriguing battle in Randburg.
In a busy weekend of action, the EP Kings will host the Blue Bulls in Port Elizabeth, the Leopards will face Boland in Potchefstroom, while Namibia’s Welwitschias will travel to play the Pumas in Ermelo.
