Toulouse too good for Brive

Published on May 9, 2015 | Leave a response

Toulouse crushed Brive 67-19 at the Stade Ernest Wallon on Saturday, keeping alive their hopes of automatic Top 14 semi-final qualification.

Winger Yoann Huget was at the centre of Toulouse’s victory, bagging a hat-trick of tries to help his team keep the pressure on the top two sides in the competition, Toulon and Clermont.

The winners were in full control of the contest from the start and outscored Brive four tries to one for a 32-13 half-time lead. They produced five more tries in the second half, including one from replacement prop Schalk Ferreira. Brive could only muster up two more penalty goals through fullback Gaetan Germain.

In other Top 14 matches, centre Robert Ebersohn scored a try to help Montpellier defeat Bayonne 33-16 at the Altrad Stadium, Toulon clinched a 37-21 bonus-point victory over Castres, a late penalty by substitute fullback Lachie Munro earned Lyon a 16-16 draw with La Rochelle, Bordeaux scraped past Oyonnax 26-23 at the Stade Andre Moga and Clermont claimed a 37-17 away win over Grenoble.

In the only match on Sunday, Morné Steyn's 23-point tally (seven penalties and a conversion), helped Stade Français to a 28-19 victory in their Parisian derby against Racing Métro.

Round 24 results:

Toulouse 67 Brive 19
Montpellier 33 Bayonne 16
Toulon 37 Castres 21
Lyon 16 La Rochelle 16
