A move into coaching is likely to be the next step in Jonny Wilkinson's illustrious career.

The Toulon flyhalf, who will hang up his boots following the European Cup and Top 14 finals, says he would relish the chance to coach players and help develop their talents.

'If I can help make a difference – even if it's only a small percentage – then it all comes around. If you can give people the evidence that they deserve to be confident then it can add to performance,' he said. 'It's a real desire of mine, having played with so many people who have helped me in my career – guys like Mike Catt and Matt Giteau.

'I just want to help others get better because I know what a difference it makes to a team. To carry on a team ethic from a coaching perspective would be great.'

Wikinson, whose work ethic and commitment to training have been the hallmark of his career, went on to hint at a possible future role in the England set-up.

'I would love to be able to do that. With England? Of course, that would be amazing.'

Meanwhile, according to reports in France, his current club Toulon intend to make a massive gesture in honour of the outgoing flyhalf.

Owner Mourad Boudjellal is planning to write to the Ligue Nationale de Rugby asking to retire the No 10 jersey.

It is unclear which number Toulon would use on the back of the flyhalf's shirt instead, while there is also significant doubt regarding whether the request will be accepted.
