South Africa's IRB Sevens World Series hopes were all but extinguished following a 14-7 defeat to Kenya in the Plate semi-final in Glasgow on Sunday.
Earlier in the day it was the Scots who got the better of the Blitzboks, putting in a rousing performance in front of their home fans to claim a shock 12-7 victory in the Cup quarter-final.
Justin Geduld danced his way through several defenders on his way to scoring the opening try, but Scotland hit back with two telling scores to lead by five points at the break. The second half was a huge forwards tussle, but Scotland stood firm in their defensive line to keep South Africa from scoring another crucial try.
New Zealand finished things off in style, claiming the Cup title with a 54-7 victory over Canada, and will head into the final round in London next week with an almost unassailable 19-point lead.
World Series standings after eight rounds (top seven):
New Zealand 158
South Africa 139
Fiji 129
England 117
