Top French clubs Racing 92 and Stade Français will merge to form a new club next season.

In a major shake-up in French rugby, the two powerhouse clubs, who have won the Top 14 for the last two years (Racing in 2016 and Stade in 2015), will combine forces from the 2017-18 season onwards.

A press conference where further details will be revealed is is due to take place on Monday afternoon.

'This association, effective from next season, will give birth to a new club, which will preserve the roots of Racing 92, like those of Stade Français, and multiply the means dedicated to the youth and French rugby,' an initial statement read.

The merger will only affect the senior side and will not impact the amateur sectors.
