Jantjies cleared to play

The Lions have confirmed flyhalf Elton Jantjies will not undergo surgery on his fractured wrist.

Jantjies sustained the injury against the Cheetahs at Ellis Park last weekend and was set to go under the knife on Tuesday to repair the damage. However, after consultation with a specialist in Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon, the 25-year-old was cleared and will be available for selection next week.

'Although all indications were that he would need an operation, the prognosis is not as bad as originally thought and Elton will be able to play against the Crusaders on 1 April,' read the Lions statement.

The news will come as great relief for the Springboks, since Handré Pollard and Pat Lambie are already out of action due to injury.
