Lions flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff has signed a two-year deal with Connacht.

Boshoff had fallen out of favour at the Lions, with Elton Jantjies and Jaco van der Walt selected as the two flyhalves for the recent tour of Japan and New Zealand.

'I’m really excited about the move to Connacht Rugby and Galway,' said Boshoff in a press release. 'From speaking to [coach] Pat [Lam], I have a good understanding of what the club is about and it’s clear that there is a huge amount of passion and ambition there in terms of where they want to go.

'I’ve watched a lot of the Connacht games this season. The rugby they are playing is really exciting and I believe that I can fit in to the structure and add something as well. I can’t wait to get stuck in.

'It’s a big move for myself and my wife Monique but we’re really looking forward to meeting everyone and settling into life in Ireland.'

Boshoff scored 214 points in 29 Super Rugby matches for the Lions and 465 in 25 Currie Cup matches for the Golden Lions. In last year’s Currie Cup, he had a 94% goal-kicking success rate.

The 27-year-old has one Test cap for the Boks, which came against Scotland in June 2014.
