Former Springbok flanker Pedrie Wannenburg will play for Denver in the USA’s new Pro Rugby league.
Wannenburg, who last played for the Bulls in 2010 Super Rugby before moving to Europe, will travel to Colorado in two weeks' time after his last game for Oyonnax in the French Top 14. The inaugural Pro Rugby league season is set to kick off on 17 April.
The 35-year-old, who is the first South African to join the league, told Rapport that he is looking forward to ending his rugby career in the USA. He also believes many South African players will be attracted to play in the new league.
‘I have a five-year visa and plan to play two more seasons. Then I want to get involved in coaching,' Wannenburg said. 'I believe I have a lot to offer in a country where rugby is the fastest growing team sport.
'The interest is great. Denver gets daily emails from players and coaches who are interested. In America everything is indeed bigger and better.’
