Zimbabwe-born loose forward David Denton will make his first appearance of this year's Six Nations against England at Twickenham on Saturday.
He has recovered from a calf strain sustained while on club duty for Edinburgh, and will take his place at the back of the scrum in one of five changes to the side that lost to Italy a fortnight ago.
Elsewhere in the pack, experienced lock Jim Hamilton comes into the second row in place of Tim Swinson.
The remaining changes come among the backs, where Dougie Fife and Matt Scott get their first starts of the campaign in place of the injured duo of Sean Lamont and Alex Dunbar.
Finn Russell will start at flyhalf in place of Peter Horne, following the completion of a two-week suspension for a dangerous tackle on Wales' Dan Biggar.
