For the first time since 2003, not a single South African side has reached the Super Rugby semi-final stage.
While it’s disappointing to see South Africa’s teams fail to make much of an impression this term, I don’t believe it will have a negative effect on the Springboks in a World Cup year, as there are so many overseas-based players in the national team these days. In my opinion, Heyneke Meyer is also not going to drop a first-choice player on account of poor Super Rugby form. The former Bulls mentor will rather work with said player heading into the Rugby Championship and help get him back to his best.
