Pollard set for stint in Japan

Handré Pollard has been granted permission to join Japanese club NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes after the World Cup.

The Vodacom Bulls confirmed on Tuesday that the flyhalf has been given clearance to ply his trade in Japan on a three-month deal (from 1 November 2015 to 31 January 2016) and will return to Loftus in time for the start of the Super Rugby season.

'Handré had a clause in his contract to go to Japan and we are happy to release him for that. In the end, it gives us more leeway to keep him at the Bulls,' said Bulls high performance manager, Xander Janse van Rensburg.

'Handré is contracted to the Bulls until the end of 2017 and we are already in talks, with assistance from Saru, to extend that to 2019,' Van Rensburg added.

The 21-year-old Pollard is one of several South African Super Rugby players who've decided to play in Japan during the off-season.
