Monument beat Glenwood 21-8 in Saturday’s Mutual & Federal Premier Interschools clash in Durban.
It was Monnas' fifth win in this annual fixture in the past six years and the Green Machine's seventh loss this season.
The visitors dominated the first half with scrumhalf Jacques Joubert scoring a brace of tries within the first 22 minutes, both of which were converted by flyhalf Xander Kruger.
Glenwood fullback Jerome Bossr was successful with just one out of four shots at goal in the first half, as his side trailed 14-3 at the break.
The second half was a tighter affair, with both sides scoring a try. Monnas' came from replacement centre Goodman Mkhwanazi and Glenwood's from winger Devan Brough.
‘It was a scrappy game,' Monnas coach Hans Coetzee told SARugbymag.co.za. 'We’re not happy and didn’t play particularly well. But the turnovers helped us a lot and the biggest positive was that our defence was excellent.
'Glenwood had the majority of the possession, and attacked a lot. We had to score opportunistic tries.’
Glenwood 1st XV coach Rudi Dames said he was proud of his players despite the defeat.
‘It was a really gutsy performance, and if it wasn’t for the two soft tries they scored in the first half, it would have been a different ball game.
'You can see they’re a quality side, and we’re still a young side. We’ll learn from our mistakes and grow as a team.’
Glenwood – Try: Devan Brough. Penalty: Jerome Bossr.
Monument – Tries: Jacques Joubert (2), Goodman Mkhwanazi. Conversions: Kruger (3).
