Handré Pollard is among 18 players who will attend a Springbok rehabilitation and conditioning camp in Stellenbosch this week.

Pollard tore knee ligaments in February and was ruled out for the rest of the season. The flyhalf then opted to have surgery on the shoulder that he had injured while playing club rugby in Japan. While at the Pretoria hospital, Pollard picked up a shoulder infection that required him to spend an additional five weeks there receiving intravenous antibiotics for up to seven hours a day.

While Pollard will not return to the field until next year's Super Rugby tournament, Bok coach Allister Coetzee has opted to bring him back into the Bok set-up now.

The camp will give the Bok management first-hand opportunity to assess the medical and fitness condition of the selected group of players. No Lions or overseas-based players were considered.

'We will use the four days to spend some time on our fundamentals, continued rehabilitation and conditioning of this group of players,' said Coetzee. 'Our management will be working hard during these four days and it will give us a good indication of the progress of those players who have recovered from injury, or those currently battling with niggles.'

The Bok squad for the first two matches of the Rugby Championship will be named on Saturday after the Super Rugby final between the Hurricanes and Lions.
