Beauden Barrett and Ardie Savea starred for the Hurricanes as they secured an emphatic 25-9 win over the Chiefs in Saturday’s semi-final, according to SARugbymag.co.za’s Opta-powered stats.
Barrett was the star of the show in the first half. He created a sensational try with his individual brilliance in the seventh minute, which set the Canes on their way, while he also scored an important intercept try later on in the opening stanza.
His game management was superb: he achieved 102m, made 12 kicks, completed seven tackles and contributed 15 points (missing just one kick at goal).
Among the forwards, Savea was in a class of his own, completing 17 tackles, making 80m and winning three turnovers. In total, the Chiefs conceded 21 turnovers in another costly facet of play.
Savea’s efforts on defence particularly reflected the impressive effort from the Canes in this area of the game, with the hosts having to make 113 tackles to 68, and yet they still managed to repeatedly thwart the Chiefs’ attack and keep the visitors from scoring a single try.
