The fraud and money laundering case involving former EP Rugby president Cheeky Watson has been postponed to 13 October.
The Herald reports that Watson, Nadia Gerwel, a former assistant director in the metro’s finance department, Zeranza director Andrea Wessels, and Mandisi Mkasa, a former director of Laphum’ilanga Transport Services, all appeared briefly in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Monday.
All the accused, out on bail of R2,000 each, face charges of fraud and money laundering following a lengthy probe into alleged corrupt activities around the R208-million meant for the city’s Integrated Public Transport System.
It's alleged that money was channelled through Access Management, who were the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium operators.
Watson, who resigned as EP Rugby president on 28 February, has called the charges 'malicious'.
The matter could be set down for trial by June or July next year.
