Du Plessis blow for Stormers

Stormers flyhalf Jean-Luc du Plessis is likely to miss Saturday’s Super Rugby quarter-final against the Chiefs at Newlands due to an ankle injury.

After Saturday’s clash with the Kings, coach Robbie Fleck said they feared the injury could be a serious one, with further assessments set to be conducted on Monday. If it proves to be a syndesmosis ankle injury, Du Plessis could be out for as long as four months.

However, the good news for the Stormers is that Rob du Preez, who started the season as the first-choice flyhalf, has fully recovered from a serious knee injury that he suffered at the beginning of March.

Brandon Thomson, who replaced Du Plessis against the Kings, is the other contender to wear the No 10 jersey against the Chiefs.

The Stormers will also be sweating over a rib injury that winger Kobus van Wyk suffered against the Kings, but it’s not believed to be too serious.
