The Griffons need a bonus-point win against the EP Kings to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Currie Cup Premier Division in September.
Griquas, the Boland Cavaliers and the Pumas are the front-runners to qualify alongside the six Super Rugby unions. The Griffons are 10 points behind the Pumas on the log, in eighth place, and have an outside chance of qualifying.
The Welkom-based side needs bonus-point wins from their final two games against the EP Kings and Pumas next week, but they will need the Pumas to lose to the Leopards in Nelspruit this weekend without a bonus point.
The Griffons will be strong favourites heading into Friday’s qualifier in Port Elizabeth with four more wins (six) than the Kings in the tournament. They have also already picked up seven try-scoring bonus points in the tournament and look set to add to that tally this weekend.
In other fixtures, the Sharks XV host the Valke in Durban, the Blue Bulls welcome the Welwitchias to Pretoria, Western Province host Border at Newlands, the SWD Eagles face the Golden Lions XV in Johannesburg, and the Free State XV take on Boland in Bloemfontein.
