Kurt Coleman thrived behind a dominant pack at Newlands on Saturday, writes JON CARDINELLI.

So influential on attack for the Springboks against Scotland, Handré Pollard struggled to make so much as a dent in the Stormers defence on Saturday. The Bulls lost the battle at the gainline, and so Pollard spent much of the contest on the back foot.

By contrast, Coleman received a steady supply of front-foot ball. He took the ball flat and looked to vary his play, whether he was putting a tight forward through a gap next to the ruck, sending a spiralling pass to his outside backs, or kicking into space behind the Bulls defence.

It was Coleman who sparked the only try of the game. The Stormers flyhalf beat one defender and then offloaded when he was tackled by a second. Nizaam Carr then provided Jaco Taute with the final pass.

Coleman also had a good night with the boot, converting four of his five attempts on goal. Pollard did not receive one opportunity.
