Afrika set for lengthy layoff

Cecil Afrika is set to miss the next four World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments after suffering a knee injury in training earlier in the week.

The playmaker was initially withdrawn from the Blitzboks squad for the upcoming Wellington and Sydney Sevens events respectively, but coach Neil Powell has confirmed Afrika will be sidelined until at least April.

This means the 28-year-old will also sit out the tournaments in Las Vegas and Vancouver in March.

'His boot got caught in the grass and he just collapsed in pain. The doctors are still trying to determine the damage, but it looks like he'll only be available when we play in Hong Kong and Singapore,' Powell Netwerk24.com.
