Sanzar is set to adopt a new try-scoring bonus-point system for the 2016 Super Rugby tournament.

According to SuperSport.com, teams will now need to score at least three more tries than the opposition to secure a bonus point. This is the same system used in the French Top 14.

For example, if their opposition scores two tries, a team would need to score five tries to earn a bonus point.

In the past, Super Rugby teams have only needed to score four tries in a match to earn a bonus point, with the opposition's try tally not taken into account.

The bonus point awarded to teams who come within seven points of their opponents will remain.

In other changes for the 2016 season, the referee's microphone is set to be connected to the stadium sound system, so that fans can hear the explanations for his decisions.

And as reported earlier this week, the referee will no longer be able to go to the TMO to check for forward passes or knock-ons. The TMO will only be allowed to be consulted for two things – the act of scoring a try and foul play.
