Kings put SWD to the sword

The Southern Kings hammered the SWD Eagles 42-24 in their pre-season friendly in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

The hosts ran in six tries in a one-sided affair, with flyhalf Lionel Cronjé and his replacement Pieter-Steyn de Wet slotting all the conversions for a perfect kicking record on the day.

A converted try either way kept the sides level at 7-7 early on, but the Kings took control thereafter as scores by Alshaun Bock, Andisa Ntsila and Makazoli Mpimpi pushed them to a 21-point advantage.

SWD did manage to go in for another try, but still they trailed 28-12 at the break.

The game kept its entertaining edge at the resumption, only this time the visitors were more involved in the action. They scored two quick tries, but Malcolm Jaer’s try and a late penalty try sealed the win for Kings.

Kings – Tries: Alshaun Bock,  Andisa Ntsila, Makazoli Mpimpi, Malcolm Jaer, Penalty try, TBC. Conversions: Lionel Cronjé (4), Pieter-Steyn de Wet (2).
Eagles – Tries: Boela Abrahams, Charles Radebe, TBC (2). Conversions: Johnny Welthangen (2).
