This website understands that the Sharks would like to add another high-quality hooker to their tight-five stocks, after bolstering their pack with the signings of Le Roux Roets and Reniel Hugo.

Mbonambi was a prime target, but does have an appealing contract-extension offer that has been tabled by the Stormers. However, he has yet to sign on the dotted line, leading to some reports that he could be reconsidering the Sharks deal.
In a tightly contested poll, 50,29% of readers voted that the 2019 World Cup winner should sign an extension with the Stormers. This came down to a matter of six votes, with 771 voters in favour of Mbonambi staying in the Western Cape, while 765 wanted him to transfer to the Sharks.
It is an illustration of Mbonambi’s importance to the Stormers, especially given that the Cape side has already lost former captain Siya Kolisi and loose forward Jaco Coetzee in quick succession. If he were to move to Durban, that would leave Springbok Scarra Ntubeni and 27-year-old Chad Solomon as the other hookers in the Stormers pack.
