The Crusaders have signed Rene Ranger and Josh McKay as injury cover ahead of the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa season.
Ranger was brought in as cover for George Bridge and Manasa Mataele, who are both recovering from pectoral injuries, with McKay announced as a replacement for All Black Braydon Ennor, who will miss the domestic competition while he recovers from a ruptured ACL.
The 34-year-old Ranger joins the Crusaders having previously played 76 games for the Blues between 2009 and 2017 while also earning six All Blacks caps. Most recently, Ranger finished a season with Northland in the Mitre 10 Cup where he played both in midfield and on the wing.
The Crusaders’ acquisition of McKay comes after the 23-year-old’s shock omission from the Highlanders squad for the upcoming season.
