The Vodacom Bulls have reportedly targeted the loan signing of Springbok and Cheetahs centre Frans Steyn for the duration of the PRO16.
Sunday newspaper Rapport reported that Steyn is one of two Cheetahs players who are on the Bulls’ radar – the other being vice-captain and flank Junior Pokomela.
The Cheetahs have lost their place in an expanded PRO16 competition, which is set to begin after in March after the Currie Cup, with the Bulls, Sharks, Lions and Stormers all included.
The report states that the Bulls would need the go-ahead from both the Cheetahs and SA Rugby, given that both Steyn and Pokomela are players of national interest and have national contracts.
Steyn and Pokomela were both called up to the Springbok Green vs Gold fixture and have been a major part of the Cheetahs’ success in the Super Rugby Unlocked competition.
CHEETAHS SQUAD: Comings and goings
The Cheetahs, who earlier this week called for positions on the domestic log to determine the participants in the PRO16, have already lost prop Luan de Bruin, locks Walt Steenkamp and JP du Preez, loose forward Jasper Wiese, centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg and utility back Tapiwa Mafura from the squad that started the Super Rugby Unlocked season.
