Fiji recorded a comprehensive 28-17 Cup final victory over England to claim top honours at the Dubai Sevens.
It’s the perfect start to the new season for the islanders, who displayed all their pace and power as they blew England away on Saturday.
Four tries during the final three minutes of the first half saw Fiji take a commanding 28-7 lead at the break, with Savenaca Rawaca, Jasa Veremalua, Isake Katonibau and Jerry Tuwa all scoring during a scintillating try blitz.
Although England had scored first through Tom Bowen, they were ultimately no match for ferocious Fiji. Bowen also scored first in the second half to help reduce the deficit to 16 points, but they just had too much ground to make up.
England did well to keep Fiji scoreless in the second half, but while Phil Burgess scored one final try to ensure they would have the final say in the match, it was Fiji who celebrated a deserved victory.
