Medical experts monitoring ‘devastated’ Kings players

The Kings in a huddle Kings
Published on September 3, 2020

Robbie Kempson has confirmed that the Kings have called in medical experts to help players deal with their mental health issues following the franchise’s withdrawal from competitive rugby.

This comes after the Kings board voluntarily suspended the team’s playing activities from all rugby competitions for the remainder of 2020, a decision taken in the face of hard, financial realities of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Netwerk24 reports the move has taken a toll of the Kings’ player squad, which is said to be devastated by the latest developments which have thrown their playing careers into disarray.

According to Kempson, most of the players are struggling mentally, resulting in the franchise calling in mental health professionals.

‘They are devastated and are, understandably so, dealing with a certain amount of anger,’ Kempson said.

‘Our medical team is working closely with some of their colleagues in the medical field and they are monitoring the players’ stress levels daily.

‘It is imperative that we put measures in place to help the players handle and get through the current situation.’
