Cheetahs loose forward Aidon Davis has been handed a clean bill of health after being diagnosed with a rare cancer two years ago.

The former Junior Springbok went for his bi-annual check-up on Wednesday and was told his results were clean.

The 26-year-old Davis has endured a frustrating time in Bloemfontein since joining the Cheetahs from French side Bayonne in 2018. After fracturing his tibia and fibula in a freak training-ground accident in February 2019, he spent most of his time on the sidelines and has been restricted to a handful of appearances.

He was also diagnosed with a rare B-cell Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer in September 2018.

‘Luckily the doctors caught it early and I underwent three weeks of radiation treatment,’ Davis told OFM Sport. ‘After that, I was back in training with the team. Then, in February 2019, I broke my leg in training, just before I was supposed to go on tour with the team to Europe in the PRO14.

‘I missed most of the 2019 season, including the Currie Cup. I started playing in the new PRO14 season, then the coronavirus brought everything to a standstill.

‘In these uncertain times and not being able to play rugby, I got very good news and I am very happy about that,’ Davis added on being cleared of cancer.
