Lions suffer Kriel setback

Published on August 27, 2015 | Leave a response

Jaco Kriel has been ruled out of the Golden Lions' match against the Pumas on Saturday.

The captain suffered a quadriceps injury during Thursday morning’s captain’s run, the extent of which is not known at this stage.

Stephan de Wit will therefore start at blindside flank, with scrumhalf Ross Cronjé captaining the team.

Lions coach Johan Ackermann has made another five changes to the side that beat the Sharks 31-16 in Durban.

Jacques van Rooyen will start at loosehead prop, with Ruan Dreyer shifting to tighthead. Martin Muller is at No 4 lock, while Fabian Booysen replaces the injured Ruaan Lerm at No 8.

Among the backs, Sampie Mastriet will wear the No 14 jersey with Ruan Combrinck shifting to fullback.

Golden Lions – 15 Ruan Combrinck, 14 Sampie Mastriet, 13 Stokkies Hanekom, 12 Howard Mnisi, 11 Courtnall Skosan, 10 Marnitz Boshoff, 9 Ross Cronjé (c), 8 Fabian Booysen, 7 Stephan de Wit, 6 Kwagga Smith, 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Martin Muller, 3 Ruan Dreyer, 2 Robbie Coetzee, 1 Jacques van Rooyen.
Subs: 16 Malcolm Marx, 17 Julian Redelinghuys, 18 MB Lusaseni, 19 Jano Venter, 20 Jaco van der Walt, 21 Alwyn Hollenbach, 22 Anthony Volmink.
