Juarno Augustus was the best South African player on show in round seven of the Vodacom Super Rugby tournament, writes JON CARDINELLI.
‘Trokkie’ certainly lived up to the pre-game hype in what was a forward-oriented contest at Kings Park. While the Stormers went down 24-14 to a superior Sharks unit, Augustus was impressive at the gainline and breakdown and recognised as the official Man of the Match.
The Sharks battled to keep the 116kg No 8 in check at close quarters and in the wider channels. Shortly after the hosts scored their first try, Augustus collected a kick on halfway and then beat several defenders. The ball was kept alive and Herschel Jantjies finished for the Stormers.
Late in the second half, Augustus took a short pass by Damian Willemse and smashed through the defence. He then showed good awareness to look for the supporting player – reserve scrumhalf Paul de Wet – and ensure that the try was scored.

Moments earlier, Augustus clamped his hands on to the ball at a ruck and won an important penalty for his side. From there, the Stormers worked their way upfield and eventually scored through De Wet.
Augustus made 14 tackles and completed two turnovers against the Sharks on Saturday.
